Mid-market rate vs the rate you get

This converter shows the mid-market rate โ€” the midpoint between global buy and sell prices, the fairest reference there is. Banks, cards and exchange shops add their margin on top, typically 1โ€“4%, plus fixed fees on transfers. So use the mid-market number to judge any offer: the closer a service gets to it, the better the deal. Sending remittances? Compare the total received, not the advertised rate โ€” a "0 fee" service often hides its cut inside a worse rate.

Tips for common conversions

Rough anchors help you sanity-check menus and price tags while travelling: memorize one round-number rate for your pair (say 1 USD โ‰ˆ its PKR value today) and scale mentally in tens. For online shopping, remember your card converts at its own rate on the settlement day, not the day you click buy โ€” and always choose to pay in the local currency, never "converted to your home currency" at the shop's rate (that trick, called DCC, costs 3โ€“8%).
